Description
The Slipstream is our latest cutting-edge performance upgrade which has been designed to minimize a rider’s aerodynamic drag when competing in non-draft Triathlon races. This innovative design eliminates the gap between the forearms, encouraging air to smoothly flow around and under the rider’s torso without requiring an overly narrow elbow position. The rounded front penetrating area blends into a traditional full hand twin grip ensuring maximum control throughout technical areas where confidence really does saves seconds and is aerodynamically sympathetic to hand positioning and movement. The continuous forearm contact—from elbow to grip—reduces gaps and drag as well as enhancing comfort and control further, fostering a more focused and faster race-day performance.
Carrying adequate hydration can often be a challenge in long distance Triathlon. The Slipstream has this covered with a dedicated bottle cage accessory capable of carrying one, two or even three water bottle subject to race organisation rules and its without aerodynamic compromise. In fact, we often observe a reduction in rider CdA when optimally positioned water bottles are placed within the semi-enclosed space between the arms and chest. Our height-adjustable carbon hydration stack features sliding top cage mounts, providing infinite adjustability to fine-tune bottle placement for both practical use and aerodynamic efficiency. In addition an optional computer mount can be neatly positioned above the wrists/forearms using either of our two solutions, a dedicated tower mount rising between the wrists or carbon mounting bar incorporated into the adjustable hydration stack, both keeping the forearms clear and unobstructed for safe entry and exit into race position, maintaining a clear view of your live race data.
How does it fit?
As a semi custom item many bike brands can be accommodated with either twin or mono tower mounting systems. With several mould options available we can determine which is most suitable to achieve a rider’s required position. Mounting can be directly to the rear tail or the pre-formed mono mount area or by using appropriate wedges, all sitting directly onto your original Tribar towers. The most appropriate method of mounting is ultimately determined by the riders bike type and reach requirements. *Note we don’t supply additional tower spacers but can supply appropriate mounting wedges.
All popular bar end gear changer buttons or clicks can be used. Wireless is popular for its easy installation but wired changers are routed through the hollow carbon hand grips exiting through dome end caps then concealed beneath the edge of the Velcro/foam arm pads. Wires can then drop through holes into the twin mounting towers as normal or can traverse into the central moulded area for mono mounted systems. This may result in some small sections of wire showing. *Note that the main carbon body is solid, not hollow.
How does sizing work?
There are some custom aspects to the Slipstream which is why each system is made to order. It is not a fully adjustable mass produced component available off the shelf, which is how we achieve such a clean flowing form. The mounting holes are positioned to meet the reach requirements stated by the customer, sometimes with a small degree of adjustment, this will determine the overall shape of the main body. The grips are typically full handed and made to the sizes provided but bar end gear changer length should be taken into consideration if being used as part of the overall grip length.
With a fully moulded one piece carbon fibre main body the Slipstream has a fixed width of between 22cm ~ 23cm outside to outside at the elbow area which can be considered narrow by many but from our experience working with many Professional Triathletes in the Wind Tunnel and on Track we know this is typically as wide as a Pro will go now. Triathletes generally sit higher at the front end than TT specialists so narrowness typically becomes of paramount importance.
How does the ordering process work?
To explore things further just contact us by email – sales@evolveaero.com or through our social media platforms and tell us which bike model you have. If compatible we will then typically ask for the following information:
- A clear side view photo of the current Tribar system and ideally a photo in race position. These are used to overlay point to point measurements and also give us an understanding as to how the position is held.
- A measurement from centre/end of Tribar grip excluding gear changers directly to a specified mounting point which differs between systems. If changes are to be made to the reach of the position it needs to be clarified at this.
- A measurement from elbow point to wrist bone.
- Width of palm to help determine grip length.
- Bar end gear changer type.
- Computer type and mounting options.
- Bottle cage mounting requirements ~ 1 or 2 bottles and angle requirements.
Once this information is gathered we can confirm compatibility and an expected lead time. Once the go ahead is given it will be added to the build schedule and upon commencement we may ask for a deposit. Upon completion we will provide photos of the Slipstream before asking for balance of payment.
